Executive Dashboard for Earned Value Management (EVM)
This document describes how to review, analyze, and maintain project performance information using the Earned Value Management (EVM) executive dashboard, including viewing key metrics, drilling into detailed analyses, managing data inputs, and generating a printable summary.
Step 1: Review Overall EVM Metrics and Visualizations
Start on the EVM executive dashboard, where you can view key project performance indicators, including:
Budget at Completion (BAC)
Earned Progress
Cost Performance Index (CPI)
Schedule Performance Index (SPI)
Estimate at Completion (EAC)
Variance at Completion (VAC)
Use the main S-curve chart to compare Planned Value (PV), Earned Value (EV), and Actual Cost (AC) over time. Review:
CPI and SPI trends for the last twelve months
Project-wise metrics and scenario comparisons
Forecasting information that indicates the performance index required to complete the project
A project heat map, where green indicates healthy projects and red indicates problematic ones
Forecast versus baseline comparisons, and suggested recovery actions to bring projects back into a “green” status

Step 2: Drill Down into Detailed S-Curve Analysis
Open the detailed S-curve view to analyze project performance more granularly, focusing on how planned, earned, and actual values evolve over time for selected projects or scenarios.

Step 3: Examine Detailed Analysis and Forecast Scenarios
Navigate to the detailed analysis section to review in-depth EVM metrics, trends, and variances. Use this view to identify root causes behind performance issues and validate whether current performance is aligned with targets.

Access the forecast scenarios section to compare different future performance assumptions and see how they impact EAC, VAC, and other key indicators.

Step 4: Review Milestones, Recovery Actions, and Action Tracker
Open the milestones view to verify key project milestones, their status, and their impact on overall project performance and schedule.
Review the recovery actions section to identify proposed or active corrective measures intended to move projects back

into a green (healthy) status.
Use the action tracker to monitor and manage all performance-related actions, including:
Open actions (e.g., 13 open)
Overdue actions (e.g., 6 overdue)
Closed actions (e.g., 5 closed)
Also review the expected CPI information to understand the performance level required going forward.
Step 5: Manage Data via Excel Upload or Manual Updates
Go to the data management area to update the metrics that feed the dashboard.

To upload data using Excel:
Download the blank Excel template.
Fill in the required data fields in the template.
Upload the completed Excel file back into the dashboard.
Alternatively, you can update your data manually directly in the dashboard fields.
Step 6: Use the Data Updater to Modify Existing Records
If you need to correct or adjust existing data, use the data updater:
Select the relevant tables or records that you want to change.
Modify values as required, applying any necessary corrections to ensure data accuracy.

Choose the specific tables or datasets to work with, then apply your updates. This provides flexibility to fine-tune what you see on the dashboard.

Step 7: Generate and Share the Print Summary
After completing all updates and reviews, generate a print summary of the dashboard.

Use the print summary option to create a concise, shareable report of your key EVM metrics and insights.

You can then:
Print or export the summary and email it to stakeholders, or
Publish the dashboard as a simple HTML-based online KPI sheet, if you have hosting available, enabling real-time visibility of project performance.
