Monthly status reporting shouldn't mean copying the same numbers into slides, trackers and emails. The Automated Executive Status Reporting System gives your PMO one structured way to collect project updates, and then builds every executive view for you.
Project managers enter one row per project per reporting period. Formulas calculate schedule, cost, milestone, risk and data-quality health from thresholds you can read and change. Scope, resources and benefits come from the project manager's assessment. When a sponsor overrides a status, the calculated status, reason, owner and date stay visible, so every colour on the page can be explained.
The Excel Executive Dashboard has nine filters, eight KPI cards with prior-period comparison, a formula-written executive summary, insight-led chart titles and a ranked top-five leadership action panel. The Project Status Card produces a one-page brief for any project and month. Period Movement shows what changed since last month and why. Milestones, RAID and Actions, the decision log and a data-quality check complete the picture.
The offline HTML dashboard opens in your browser with no installation, server or login. Click Load Excel workbook and the same rules produce the same numbers in an interactive view, with a searchable portfolio, drill-down to status cards, CSV export and print.
You receive a Demo workbook with fictional sample data, a Blank workbook ready for your projects, the HTML dashboard, a User Guide, a KPI Methodology and a Quick Start. It uses standard formulas only: no macros, Power Query or add-ins.

How it works
Configure: set your periods, lists and thresholds on one Settings sheet.
Load projects: add each project's baseline dates, budget and owners, then its milestones and RAID items.
Collect updates: each PM adds one row per project per period.
Review: open the dashboard at Latest, check the action panel and overrides, and chase missing updates.
Present: print status cards, or load the workbook into the HTML dashboard for the meeting.
Compatibility
Excel for Microsoft 365 and Excel 2021 desktop, on Windows and Mac. The workbook is standard .xlsx with formulas only: no macros, Power Query, add-ins or dynamic-array functions.
Excel for the web and Google Sheets are not supported for editing.
The HTML dashboard runs in a current desktop or mobile browser. It was tested in Chromium (Chrome), works offline and needs no installation.
Workbook calculations are verified with zero formula errors. The HTML dashboard reproduces the Excel figures for the same period and filters.
10 FAQs
Do I need macros or add-ins? No. The workbook uses standard formulas only.
Can I change the RAG thresholds? Yes. Every threshold and whether each dimension is critical is set on the Settings & Definitions sheet.
What happens if a project manager doesn't submit an update? The project shows Grey and is flagged Missing. Its latest financial snapshot is carried forward, and it appears on the Data quality view.
Can a sponsor override the status? Yes. The override becomes the reported status, but the calculated status, reason, owner and date remain visible.
How many projects does it handle? 100 projects, 2,400 update rows, 1,000 milestones and 1,500 RAID records, across 24 reporting periods.
Does the HTML dashboard need internet or a server? No. Extract the ZIP and open index.html. Your workbook is processed only in your browser.
Will the HTML dashboard show the same numbers as Excel? Yes. It applies the same rules and reads the same input columns. Loading the Demo workbook reproduces the built-in sample exactly.
Can I use it for weekly reporting? Yes. Define your periods as weeks on the Settings sheet; the logic works on each period's end date.
Does it work in Google Sheets? Editing is not supported. Use Excel desktop, and the HTML dashboard for sharing views.
Can I use it with clients? The Professional licence covers use on client engagements. Reselling or redistributing the template is not permitted under any tier.
