The business problem. Cost and schedule are usually reported separately: finance shows spend against budget, planners show dates against the baseline. Neither answers the questions executives actually ask - are we getting the value we are paying for, where will we finish, and what efficiency would it take to finish on budget?By the time an overrun is obvious in spend reports, the recovery options have narrowed.

Who it is for. Project managers and planners, cost controllers and project-controls teams, PMO leaders, portfolio and program managers, sponsors and steering committees in engineering, infrastructure, IT services and transformation portfolios.

The EVM workflow. (1) Maintain the Project Master and monthly EVM Period Performance rows - period or cumulative values, never an uncontrolled mix. (2) Pick the status date and EAC method on the dashboard. (3) Review portfolio KPIs, S-curve, CPI/SPI trends, variance drivers, forecast finish and the heatmap. (4) Compare forecast scenarios and TCPI. (5) Clear data exceptions and drive the ranked recovery actions.

Forecast options. EAC 1 = BAC ÷ CPI (current efficiency continues) · EAC 2 = AC + (BAC − EV) (remaining work at budgeted rate) · EAC 3 = AC + (BAC − EV) ÷ (CPI × SPI) (cost and schedule pressure persist) · EAC 4 = AC + bottom-up ETC (fresh re-estimate) · plus an Approved EAC Override that takes precedence under "Project Default". ETC, VAC and TCPI to BAC and to EAC are calculated for each choice.

Decisions enabled. Which projects need recovery funding or escalation; whether BAC is still a credible target (TCPI vs CPI); which EAC to approve; which work packages and root causes to fix first; and which overdue actions need a decision this month.
